Firm

Brawer Hauptman + Larkin Architects is an architecture, planning and interior design firm located in Philadelphia. Founded in 1986, our thirteen-person firm has worked on a wide range of projects for a diverse group of institutional, commercial, civic and private clients.

Our primary focus is working with non-profit institutions in the fields of

Healthcare

Religion

Education

Community Service

Our projects include new construction, renovations and additions as well as Facility Assessments, Feasibility Studies, and Master Plans.  We have received national recognition for many of our custom residences.

We have been honored with design awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, the General Building Contractors Association as well as numerous industry publications.  We have been finalists in design competitions that address social and environmental concerns.  We are proud to have been responsible for the first LEED Silver project in North Philadelphia and the first project in the country to receive LEED credit points for incorporating a charrette workshop into the design process.

Most of our clients are represented either by building committees made up of volunteers who have never undertaken a building project before and look to us to guide them through the process, or by professional building departments responsible for a large inventory of demanding facilities and require a nimble and knowledgeable firm who is familiar with their standards, protocols and requirements.   We have the proven ability to understand and address both of those needs and to lead the project appropriately, professionally, and responsively.

As a full service design firm, Brawer Hauptman + Larkin manages all aspects of the design process from the initial feasibility study through the final punch list.  We create a physical form that expresses the vision of our clients.  We look forward to sharing this process with you.

We believe IN...

COLLABORATION

The best designs come from client and user participation and  from the free exchange of ideas within the design team and an empowered office staff. We embrace the charrette methodology -- group workshops -- as a design tool.  It is an exciting,  collaborative and dynamic approach that results in a design  based on a shared vision of everyone involved.

RESPONSIVENESS

Our office culture is rooted in client relationships.  We will demonstrate our ability to listen to our client, respond in an appropriate manner, participate with enthusiasm and professionalism, and do what it takes to meet the client’s needs and expectations.

CONTEXT

Response to context is one of the most powerful drivers of  architectural design.  Our buildings strive to contribute to the  fabric of their surroundings.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Environmentally responsible design is an integral part of our work  with religious, educational, healthcare and community  outreach non-profits.  It is an important component of any  program that promotes social  awareness, and we are  dedicated to helping our clients achieve their missions through  the buildings that they occupy.

We have participated regularly in the Community Design Collaborative, a volunteer organization that offers preliminary design assistance to nonprofit groups and recruits design professionals. Our Lutheran Settlement House effort was awarded the AIA Community Design Award for Design Excellence and our work on the Sacred Places/Civic Spaces initiative won awards from the American Institute of Architects and the Preservation Alliance for
Greater Philadelphia.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

We are committed to participating in programs that promote  social and environmental responsibility.  We have been an active participant in Summer Search and  the ACE Mentor Program that serve Philadelphia public high school students who are exploring  careers in Architecture, Construction or Engineering. Many of  our staff members have mentored budding architects on a wide  range of challenging projects.

We are active in our communities, our civic groups and our religious institutions, and we encourage our staff to do the same.
