Chisuk Emuna Congregation
Harrisburg, PA
In April 2009, this Conservative congregation's 60 year old building was destroyed in a tragic fire. In order to determine their next steps, the congregation hired BH+L to conduct a feasibility study to explore a number of options. These scenarios included renovating the damaged building, constructing a new building on the existing site, or acquiring a new site to construct a new building. The study, which examined six of these options, resulted in recommending the purchase of a sloped site a block from the Jewish Community Center.
The new building has a flexible sanctuary space that opens to a social hall and several classrooms. A Beit Midrash provides an additional classroom space, and serves as a daily chapel, a library and a meeting room. The building is designed to allow for the Phase 2 construction of permanent classrooms with minimal disruption.
